After a tricky year for all of us, the demand for emergency food was higher than ever – but so was your generosity. Due to the pandemic, we needed our community’s help, more than ever, to contribute towards an additional 2.5 million meals needed this winter in London alone and we’re delighted to share the results!
A huge thanks to everyone who took part in our Reverse Advent Calendar this December. It was the third year of running the initiative, which was set up to encourage customers to give back and donate food to those in need at Christmas.
The concept was simple, customers added one non-perishable food item into an empty Mindful Chef box each day this December, then returned them to us for free. This year, we teamed up with London’s largest food distribution charity, The Felix Project, to make sure our donations went to those who needed them the most.
Last year our community donated 12.5 tonnes of food, equal to 29,762 meals, and this year, we’re delighted to announce we have doubled our donations!
Thanks to our community, we’ve managed to donate 24 tonnes of food, equal to 57,217 meals – a grand total of 144,000 food items!
If you didn’t take part, it’s not too late to make a difference. We would love to encourage more people to donate excess food to their local food bank where possible. Whilst there is always a sharp increase in demand for emergency food at this time of the year, lockdown has meant 7 in 10 of these households have never had to use a food bank before.
